  This is a fine place for children and a fun way to spend the day for a couple hours. While the operation has shrunk since I visited as a child, it's still a very enjoyable activity. You will get dirty, so I definitely suggest bringing extra clothes if you choose to mine early in the day. The staff is helpful and friendly and has never been pushy about gem cutting since I've been coming to this place. Found topaz, rubies, citrine, smokey quartz, garnets, sapphires, aquamarine, amethysts in the local bucket.

  Like someone else said, the owner is a mean old man. I bought a ring from him that didn't hold up for more than 6 months. I brought it back to talk to him about it, and he told me he didn't care and kicked me out! Definitely a leech on tourists that won't return when their product falls apart.
